Pipe Track Hike – Cape Town

Pipe Track Jaimi Shields Rag and Bone Cape Town 2

View from Pipe Track Walk in Cape Town

On gorgeous Autumn days in Cape Town, it is unavoidable to get off ones bum and go for a walk. I have never done Pipe Track before and have been eagerly bookmarking it for a lovely day out. For more hikes join this community group on Facebook.

A few quick tips:
Where + Parking – turn left off of Kloof Nek road and turn immediately left again and park there (right where the Free MyCiti Bus shuttles fetch Table Mountain visitors)
What to wear – wear layers for Autumn – I wore tights, a long top, a light hoodie and a scarf (or snood) and a head band – I detest wind in my ears and of course my trusty trainers
What to bring – light back pack with water, an apple and a choccie
Side note: with the sporadic but very real incidents on Table Mountain and in our forests please walk 2+, Lion’s Head even suggest 4 is the perfect number.

A hop skip across Tafelberg Road and up the trail you go. I found the trail very pleasant, a great hike for taking visitors who aren’t particularly fit enough for Lion’s Head or who aren’t keen on the sheer altitude of that hike but are a bit fussy about a gorgeous view and some fresh air. Pipe Track is also very green at the moment which is perfect for an ex KZNer like myself who misses the very green Drakensberg – there were even puddles, yay. Fellow hickers are friendly and polite, we even met a new group of SanParks volunteers who were pacing out the route as part of their training. This route is great for trail runners and dog walkers.

Enjoy the hike and hopefully we see you on the mountain sometime!
